Morocco Enters US HIMARS Support Schedule for Fiscal 2027

The planning entry signals progress, but it is not confirmation that the launchers have already been delivered or entered service.

Morocco appears in a US Army planning document for logistics and technical support covering ten M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launchers during the 2027 US fiscal year, according to a document reviewed by Médias24.

The reference adds a new operational milestone to Morocco’s HIMARS programme. It does not, by itself, establish a final delivery date or show that the broader acquisition originally notified to the US Congress has been completed.

What the 2027 planning document covers

The draft statement of work places Morocco among foreign partners expected to receive support between October 2026 and September 2027. The services concern launcher maintenance, storage, inspection and production-related activities rather than a new arms-sale authorization.

For the Moroccan programme, the document reportedly includes temporary secure storage for integration equipment such as communications hardware, spare parts, armour kits and other US-government-furnished equipment.

It also provides for specialists to attend production tests at Lockheed Martin’s Camden facility in Arkansas if required. Two specialists are planned for separate two-week assignments connected with inspections of units intended for Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces.

Ten supported systems versus the earlier request for eighteen

In April 2023, the US State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale to Morocco valued at an estimated $524.2 million. The congressional notification covered up to 18 M142 HIMARS launchers, along with guided rockets, ATACMS tactical missiles, support vehicles, communications equipment, training and logistical services.

The new reference to ten launchers should not automatically be read as a cancellation of the remaining eight or as confirmation that all eighteen were ordered. A congressional notification sets the maximum scope of a possible sale; subsequent contracts, production lots and support schedules can cover smaller quantities.

Why HIMARS matters to Morocco

HIMARS is a truck-mounted launcher designed to move rapidly, fire guided munitions and leave its position. Its strategic value depends not only on range but also on targeting information, communications, training, maintenance and the availability of suitable munitions.

The 2023 US notification included M30A2 and M31A2 guided rockets as well as M57 ATACMS missiles. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the proposed package would improve Morocco’s ability to address current and future threats, support border security and increase interoperability with US forces.

What is confirmed

  • The United States approved a possible sale of up to 18 launchers and related equipment in 2023.
  • A newer US Army planning document reportedly schedules support for ten Moroccan systems in fiscal 2027.
  • The planned work includes storage, inspections and potential factory-test support.

What remains unclear

  • The public documents do not provide a precise handover date for the ten launchers.
  • They do not explain whether additional launchers will be covered by later production or support phases.
  • They do not establish how Morocco will integrate the system into a real-time targeting network.

Those distinctions matter because defence procurement moves through several stages: authorization, contracting, production, acceptance, delivery, training and operational deployment. The fiscal 2027 support entry is evidence of progress within that process, but it should not be treated as proof that the systems are already operational in Morocco.
