Morocco Advances National AI Infrastructure and JAZARI Research Network

Morocco is developing shared data and software capabilities while moving four JAZARI institutes towards operational activity under its national AI roadmap.

Morocco has outlined further steps towards building national artificial intelligence infrastructure, with data centres, sovereign cloud services and shared digital platforms among the priorities reviewed in Rabat on September 8.

At a presentation chaired by Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, officials assessed progress under the Morocco AI 2030 roadmap. The ministry highlighted a Data Factory intended to organise information for AI models and a Software Factory designed to let public administrations reuse software components and improve interoperability.

The roadmap targets MAD 100 billion in added value to GDP, 50,000 direct and indirect jobs, and the training and certification of 200,000 people by 2030. These are policy objectives, rather than results already achieved. Source: Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform.

A separate ministry announcement confirmed that four JAZARI institutes held general assemblies the same day, following publication of approvals for their founding agreements in August. The ministry described this as a transition from institutional setup towards implementing their missions.

JAZARI ROOT is intended to provide the network’s common technology foundation, covering advanced computing, data platforms and digital infrastructure. The other three institutes focus on education, industrial technology and smart cities.

Their proposed work connects research with practical applications, including teaching tools, industrial automation and the management of urban resources and services. The wider approach brings together universities, public bodies, businesses and startups to develop locally relevant AI solutions. Source: Ministry announcement on JAZARI.

The announcements indicate progress in organising the programme. They do not establish that every planned computing facility or digital service is already fully operational.
