Talisman Metals has started a drilling campaign at its Tirzzit copper-silver project in Morocco, moving its exploration work from surface observations to new underground samples.
In a regulatory announcement dated September 2, the company outlined 33 planned holes totalling 2,770 metres. Drilling will cover a four-kilometre geological trend, with individual holes reaching between 40 and 140 metres. Additional targets may be tested as the programme advances.
What the drilling programme will test
The campaign is intended to establish how mineralisation extends along the project’s targeted rock layers. Some holes will also test areas farther from the locations already examined.
Talisman appointed Geosond Maroc SARL to carry out reverse-circulation drilling. This method brings rock cuttings to the surface for analysis, providing samples from below ground rather than relying only on exposed rocks.
The company’s August 18 mobilisation update had estimated roughly six weeks of drilling. It anticipated laboratory results towards the end of the campaign and over subsequent weeks, depending on sample deliveries and analysis. That is an expected timetable, rather than a guaranteed date for results.
A project with earlier copper indications
Tirzzit lies about 225 kilometres east of Agadir and comprises two mining licences covering 16.5 square kilometres. Talisman says older Moroccan state exploration records include an interval grading 3.16% copper over 2.5 metres and another grading 0.60% over 11.4 metres.
Those figures come from historic work conducted between 1972 and 1976. They are not results from the drilling campaign that has just begun.
What remains to be established
The September announcement confirms the start of drilling, not a commercially viable discovery. The next useful evidence will be the new laboratory assays and the company’s assessment of how the sampled mineralisation connects between holes.
The distinction matters: identifying metal in individual samples does not, by itself, establish the scale or economics of a mine.
French-language coverage of the campaign was also published by Bladi on September 2. This report was written using the company announcements linked above.
