A reported MAD 300 million investment would enable the Moroccan tobacco factory to supply part of its output to the United States.
Société Marocaine des Tabacs (SMT) is preparing its Aïn Harrouda factory for cigarette exports to the US market, according to a September 7 report by Le Desk.
The publication reports that MAD 300 million is being invested in the plant’s industrial equipment to support the move. Located near Mohammedia, the facility has traditionally manufactured cigarettes for the Moroccan market.
Le Desk identifies SMT as a subsidiary of Imperial Brands and describes the arrangement as an effort to sustain the existing industrial operation by opening an additional market.
The report’s publicly accessible section does not specify the brands involved, projected export volumes or a shipment timetable. It also does not establish that exports have begun.
This brief is based on Le Desk’s publicly available reporting. The Morocco Report has not independently verified the investment or obtained the full subscription article.
